It is very difficult to explain how great a problem a lack of water is and with what yearning the people of Burkina Faso look at the clouds blowing in the wind, from which the rain is supposed to come, when here we are in the middle of a bleak and rainy winter where all we can think about is how not to get wet on the way to work.

For us, the problems of Africa are remote, but the people we meet and introduce to you here are not. By giving us a high five you are very close to them. You save their lives, you make right the most twisted human stories. When you think that thanks to you a hungry person has eaten a meal today when they were at risk of starving, or that you gave a job to someone who only yesterday saw their only chance of survival in a deadly migration to another world, it is no longer necessary to understand the complexity of global problems. Understanding the drama of a person who dreams of the opportunities that we take for granted is enough.

In the Sahel and West Africa, the number of people suffering from severe food insecurity has just risen to a record 28 million. Around Gourcy, a village in northern Burkina Faso where we have been running an agricultural project for years, internal refugees are on the rise. They are fleeing terrorists, drought and hunger.

We want our garden to feed not only the poorest inhabitants of Gourcy, but also those who seek shelter in the surrounding areas. We want to get things ready quickly. We know how to grow more crops, we have the tools and trained farmers to do it. What is missing is the land. Giving regular high fives, i.e. setting up a standing order for 5 PLN a week, will not solve the global problems of climate and migration, but it will help one person for whom there is no future, giving them hope and the tools to build it.

Look at Celine! A happy mum who, thanks to your funding of medical care, was nursed safely through her pregnancy, even though she had miscarried several times before. Her big dream came true and now another dream is coming true. She is studying at our tailoring school. She is happy with her home and with the prospect that the skills she has acquired will provide her with a stable job. You have given her a sense of security! Thanks to regular high fives, you do this for nearly 40,000 people a year.

5 PLN is really not much. Set up a standing order now, it only takes a moment. A fiver put to good use can do wonders, the news of which we are happy to share with you here!
