Democratic Republic of Congo

The second largest country of Africa, full of paradoxes. On one hand, it is rich in natural resources (including cobalt, copper, coltan, crude oil, diamonds, gold); on the other hand, its inhabitants are among the poorest in the world. For decades, the DRC has been suffering from prolonged conflicts that have led to one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.

Overview:
  • 77% of the population live in extreme poverty for less than $1.90 a day
  • 16% of the country’s population, i.e. over 13 million people, require immediate humanitarian assistance
  • 13,6 million people are deprived of access to safe water sources and proper sanitary and hygienic facilities
  • numerous outbreaks of deadly diseases, including measles, malaria, cholera and Ebola
  • about 10% of all malaria deaths in sub-Saharan Africa occurred here

No one should be hungry. For a child to go hungry is unacceptable! In the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is being torn apart at this very moment by the rebel fighting, more and more children need to be saved.

It is really enough to have been in Ntamugenga for even a moment to realise that in the hospital and nutrition centre run by the Sisters of the Angels, the inhabitants of the surrounding villages receive so much good that they have not experienced anywhere else, perhaps not even in their entire lives. North Kivu is not a kind place to its inhabitants or anyone who tries to venture here. Endless wars and rebellions clip the wings of the people, take away their dreams and ruin absolutely everything.

A child’s hunger is very different to that of an adult. An adult can rebuild their strength, a child who does not get enough food develops poorly and will never be what they could have become.

Thanks to you, our centre in Congo is one of the last in the entire province and has never yet run out of medicines, IVs or food, even though there have been some drastic situations.

On Children’s Day we are asking you to help us replenish our stock of food and specialist milk!!!

Feed a hungry child with us. Make their greatest dream come true!
