Place: Burkina Faso – The agricultural project in Gourcy

In the small village of Gourcy, we host sewing classes for women where they’re taught the tailoring profession by the best tailors from Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. A three-year course is a dream come true for these women, as it creates new opportunities on the job market. Women who have already mastered the basics of tailoring can participate in other classes – we also offer five-hour literacy and basic math classes three times a week. 62% of Burkina Faso residents over the age of 15 are illiterate. Thanks to us, some of our proteges have had the chance to learn how to write for the first time in their lives. Being a seamstress requires the ability to take measurements, write them down, and use a measuring tape. The course participants are all very motivated as they know that the knowledge they’re acquiring is extremely valuable and will be useful not just in tailoring.
