Congo is at war: Join us and let's face the crisis together!

Democratic Republic of Congo

The second largest country of Africa, full of paradoxes. On one hand, it is rich in natural resources (including cobalt, copper, coltan, crude oil, diamonds, gold); on the other hand, its inhabitants are among the poorest in the world. For decades, the DRC has been suffering from prolonged conflicts that have led to one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.

Overview:
  • 77% of the population live in extreme poverty for less than $1.90 a day
  • 16% of the country’s population, i.e. over 13 million people, require immediate humanitarian assistance
  • 13,6 million people are deprived of access to safe water sources and proper sanitary and hygienic facilities
  • numerous outbreaks of deadly diseases, including measles, malaria, cholera and Ebola
  • about 10% of all malaria deaths in sub-Saharan Africa occurred here

When the Ntamugenga hospital and nutrition centre asked us for help in 2014, we knew that either we would help or the place could no longer treat the sick and feed the hungry. Tiny children, pregnant women, postpartum women. What would their lives be like if the only health centre within their reach disappeared?

We did it! Together, we have been fighting hunger in this corner of the world for 10 years. We also carry out nearly 30 000 medical procedures, including malaria treatment, blood transfusions, surgery, laboratory tests that cannot be performed anywhere else within a radius of a few dozen kilometres.

Today, help is again urgently needed. Maintaining ongoing, vital support for the centre is made difficult by the falling number of donations to the centre. The stick in the spokes is also the high exchange rate of the dollar and the world’s attention focused on the wars in Ukraine and Israel.

We all feel that the prices of basic products are rising. The crisis is everywhere. Unfortunately, in the Congo too. The supply chains broken by the occupation of the M23 rebellion are further raising the price of basic hospital supplies.

Since the beginning of October, things have been brewing again in the Congo.

The first victims of the war are the sick, the poor and those suffering from chronic hunger. Children in extreme states of malnutrition come to us every day.

We are working full steam ahead, everyone over and above their full-time job, to get the fundraising done in time, but we need your help. Our dream is that everyone who decides to support the small patients in the Congo with just five zloty will encourage at least one other person to do the same. We know that it is harder for you too. That is why we do not ask for much. Just as much as you can, so that your household budget does not suffer. By persuading your friends to do so, you will help us to raise the necessary amount. Only scale will save us.

Together we must succeed – with you we have survived every crisis!
