Transport of a mother and child to rehabilitation

Place: Mauritania – Center for Children with Disabilities in Nouakchott

In Mauritania, the distance between home and the rehabilitation center is often an insurmountable barrier for mothers of children with disabilities. The families we support live in the poorest, outlying districts of the capital, Nouakchott. Without our buses, the children would never reach the center – parents cannot afford taxis, and sandy roads and extreme heat make it impossible to get there on foot while carrying a child with a disability.

This support truly opens the door to help:

  • Two buses in constant motion: From 7:00 a.m., our drivers navigate a maze of neglected streets, picking up mothers and children right at the doors of their homes.
  • A fight against the desert: Sand and the lack of paved roads take a heavy toll on engines and suspensions. Your support covers fuel and the essential servicing these vehicles need in a climate where wear and tear happens very fast.
  • Safety and dignity: Thanks to transportation, a mother with a sick child does not have to wander for hours in the sun. They arrive at the Foyer safely and on time, ready for breakfast and rehabilitation.

Funding a ride makes all the other support – therapy, nursing care, and meals – accessible to these children.
