Become a superhero

Democratic Republic of Congo

The second largest country of Africa, full of paradoxes. On one hand, it is rich in natural resources (including cobalt, copper, coltan, crude oil, diamonds, gold); on the other hand, its inhabitants are among the poorest in the world. For decades, the DRC has been suffering from prolonged conflicts that have led to one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.

We know you don’t need applause and fanfare, but we want to tell you that we see your huge heart.

Between one sip of coffee and another, you decide to donate a malaria drug to someone. Scrolling through social media, you see a hungry child and can’t pass by, so you fund a therapeutic meal. You try to cut down on sweets and spend the equivalent of your favourite chocolate bar on a doctor’s appointment for a pregnant woman. What does that PLN 2 mean? To someone on the other side of the world, it means everything.

Saving lives doesn’t look like it does in superhero films. It doesn’t require huge muscles, a cape or superpowers. It’s often just a good heart, like yours, that refuses to accept evil and powerlessness.

You save the lives of hundreds of people every day, who you get to know through the stories we describe. You are with us when we feed Joseline suffering from hunger. You hold Marcel’s hand as he awaits his final journey in the hospice. You put your arms around the caring shoulders of Mira from Lebanon, who is able to buy heart medication thanks to you.

On this Good Deeds Day, we thank you for every life saved. For trusting that every penny goes where it should. You are the real superheroes of these stories.

If you would like to do something good today, we strongly encourage you to visit GoodWorks 24/7. It takes very little to become a superhero.

Israel has entered Lebanon. Our beneficiaries and thousands of residents in southern Lebanon are no longer safe.
