We Restore Dignity and Bring Relief From Suffering in Kabuga, Rwanda…

Rwanda

Rwanda is one of the smallest countries on the African continent and also the most densely populated. There are about 525 inhabitants per square kilometre! Because of its natural landscape, Rwanda is known as the “land of a thousand hills”, and because of its history, also the “land of a thousand problems”.

Overview:
  • around 14 million inhabitants
  • in 1994, it was the scene of a genocide — in just 100 days, about 1 million people of the Tutsi ethnic group were murdered and 2 million fled the country
  • an agricultural country — about 62% of the working population is employed in farming (coffee, tea, bananas)

Before coming to Kabuga, she went through a lot. She didn’t have the conditions to be sick, but the illness didn’t take that into account. Abandoned, lonely, and neglected, she experienced the cruelty of poverty and lack of independence. When she arrived in Kabuga, it was as if her life began again.

The patients come to us exhausted. Often neglected, powerless. It’s clear they are suffering, their eyes show a deep, existential sadness. It only takes a moment for them to grow into this place, to call it home. They forget their pain and loneliness. That’s how it was with Virginie.

There is no hospice without beds. In Kabuga, we restore dignity, bring relief from suffering, and turn the greatest human tragedies into joy from every new morning. We help the sick live until the very end, although elsewhere they wouldn’t be able to cope with their suffering. The comfort of our patients is our highest priority. That’s why the hospice needs you today!

Your regular support allows us to maintain this extraordinary place, but the time has come for us to invest in the purchase of specialized beds. The ones we have have been serving patients since the hospice was opened. They really need to be replaced.

The cost of 20 specialized rehabilitation beds, along with anti-bedsore mattresses, is about €30 000. Not a small amount, but considering how crucial this equipment is for restoring the dignity of palliative patients, we cannot save on this. SynergyOil Poland understood this very well, and without a moment’s hesitation, the company donated over €10 000, 1/3 of the needed amount. We need you to fund the rest!

10 euro. That’s what we’re asking you for today. We will ask the same of 2,000 other people. This could really be the best-spent 10 euro today.

Urgent help for seniors

Let’s save Laudy and Jean from homelessness

Their entire life savings have been wiped out by the economic crisis. They haven’t been able to pay rent for nine months. If the landlord loses patience, they’ll end up on the street - with nowhere to turn. We don’t want them counting down the days until eviction!
