Today, Roger occupies slightly less space in this world than he did yesterday. He is almost no longer here with us. In the Beirut port explosion, he lost his family and his home. Crisis-stricken Lebanon cannot offer him any work. Cancer is slowly consuming his body. Roger lives in the shadow of tragedy, but he has almost stopped casting a shadow himself—he has lost so much weight from illness.
He has taken refuge in an abandoned building, which we visited regularly, bringing medicine and food. We won’t let him face this world alone. A dying person needs very little: a handful of painkillers, bread, a glass of tea. And presence—someone knowing that he is still here.
A week ago, someone came to the abandoned building and told Roger to leave. He packed his few belongings into a plastic bag and went to a friend’s place. Temporarily. Everything in Roger’s life has become temporary.
The conditions were terrible, but compared to the street, the abandoned building was a true luxury.
We’re not trying to rebuild his life. We want to stop this avalanche of misfortune. To find Roger a place that will be the end of loss and the beginning of peace. To give him a room where no one will ever force a dying man out.
Your support is the key to the room where Roger can close his eyes in peace. Visit our website, click the bell, and give Roger a final, safe address.
