Place: Togo – Pharmacy in Saoudé

In Saoudé, we beat hunger before it has the chance to strike. Mothers come to our St. Fridolin pharmacy when their children exhibit the first signs of weight issues. One sachet of high-energy porridge, costing around €2.5, is enough to stop nutrient deficiencies and prevent dangerous weight loss..

How does it work?

We buy locally to support local farmers

Most of the porridge we use is purchased at local markets in Togo, helping support the country’s farmers. We only bring Polish blends during our trips from Poland to Togo, and only in small amounts – just as much as we can fit in our luggage
A regular sachet of baby porridge in Togo costs between €1.2 and €2.6, but imported specialist blends can cost up to €7. These are reserved for children facing serious nutritional deficiencies or digestive issues.

A symbolic contribution for support

Each mother gives a symbolic amount of grain (millet or maize) in return. The grain goes into our storage and is given back to the villages during the dry season, when food is most scarce. This system helps preserve dignity – it teaches families how to manage their budgets and builds a sense of shared responsibility. No mother in need ever leaves empty-handed – in emergencies, porridge is provided “on credit” and paid back with grain after harvest.

A health package for every child

Along with the porridge, mothers receive basic hygiene and meal preparation instructions. If needed, we also cover the cost of medicine and supplements.
