The country is very underdeveloped economically. Its economy relies mainly on agriculture, which generates about 18% of the GDP and employs roughly 30% of the working population. Togo ranks among the countries with the lowest level of social development.

Overview:
  • poverty is widespread, especially in rural areas, where about 58.8% of households live below the poverty line; in urban areas, the rate is about 26.5%
  • key factors driving poverty include food insecurity (over 23% of children under five suffer from chronic malnutrition), limited access to health care, unemployment, and insufficient job opportunities, especially for young people

Video Transcription: Good Factory is not just about projects. It’s primarily about people. People we strive to care for. Now it’s August, the end of August, and this is always a challenge for parents, not just in Poland but especially here in Togo. It’s time to get the children ready for school, and they need school supplies. For our local children, this is a huge challenge. Every year, everything has to be bought anew.

Each child needs different amounts of pens, notebooks, and writing boards. But as Ania mentioned, this is a struggle for the children. We buy and we help, but we must always remember—and we always do—that we never provide 100% of the supplies.

Why? Because parents need to feel that they have children and must be responsible for them. Despite the difficulties, they need to organize themselves and contribute to purchasing supplies. So, we don’t relieve parents of their duties, but we accompany them, help them, and tailor the supplies to the needs and capabilities of the family. And we strongly encourage you to buy school supplies for our children here in Togo. Tomorrow, we will also show you how they live and what they need.
